Yes, it's time to go back to work.
I know, it's hard to believe three months of maternity leave have reached their conclusion.
Actually, I'm not crabby about it at all.
In fact, I'm looking forward to transitioning back. Perhaps it is because Thomas has been out of school for a couple of weeks now and these two little Lewton boys go together like oil and water sometimes, as my mom pointed out. (Not all the time.)
But I know that better now. I know them better now. I think I know myself better now after these 90-ish days. And I know this little creature very well...
Typically, I know when she's sleep and when she's hungry. When she wants to be silly and when she has something to say. I've been able to watch, up-close, the boys get to know her. Sammy is more tolerant of her cries. Thomes sometimes recognizes them as a time to get away with something. Sammy has lots of love for her. Thomas loves her a lot, and has lots of questions about her. Both are very proud big brothers.
And so, it's time to change my daily attire. Thank you, sweatpants, for dedicating your days and your elastic to me. My alb is waiting. Ready to rest on a smaller belly. And I am ready to slip back into life as a preacher, now with three kids. Maybe, just maybe, a little bit wiser, surely a bit more exhausted, and knowing the blessing of being a full-time mom and wife.
