I ate breakfast this morning by myself.
An entire table, all to myself, with three empty chairs. No one spilled juice. No one argued. No one issued any breakfast orders to me. It was peaceful.
This is Day Two at a preaching festival in Honkytonk Town, Tennessee. I am lucky, lucky to be here, with a number of preachers whose words I have read, listened to on podcosts, and some whom I have heard in person.
But standing in line at a Caribou Coffee yesterday in Denver, it was all I could do to keep from crying because I was two states away from my favorite little redheads. Maybe it is too early for me to take a one-week leave from morning breakfast waitressing, random hugs, referreeing, bathtime, booktime and bedtime. I may not have been as ready as I thought I was.
But here I am, after a peaceful breakfast at a hotel continental breakfast, where I snagged ten more napkins than I needed, just in case a little redhead spilled his or her juice.
These trips are good . . . good for you both personally and professionally . . . good for Dad & the kids to figure out how to navigate life without Mom . . . and good because when you get home - you appreciate your family that much more. Enjoy your week, and smother those red-heads in kisses as soon as you can:-)
